Latest PSNI workforce figures provide an important insight into ethnic minority representation within policing in Northern Ireland. As Northern Ireland becomes increasingly diverse, representation within major public institutions is an important policy issue affecting recruitment, confidence, engagement and trust. The figures provide an opportunity to consider the barriers that may continue to discourage people from migrant and minority ethnic backgrounds from pursuing careers in policing and how progress under the PSNI’s Race and Ethnicity Action Plan should be measured.
