New research published by The Executive Office points to a concerning decline in public attitudes towards refugees and asylum seekers in Northern Ireland. The 2025 findings show falling levels of support across several measures, including perceptions of whether Northern Ireland is welcoming to refugees and recognition of the contribution refugees make to society. For organisations concerned with migration, equality and social cohesion, the findings raise important questions about public discourse, misinformation and how Northern Ireland builds stronger relationships between increasingly diverse communities.
